How Much Does a Car Key Cost?

Car key cost depends on a few things:

  • Key type. A basic metal key costs the least. Transponder keys, fobs and push-to-start smart keys cost more because they need programming.
  • Make, model and year. Some brands and newer vehicles need special equipment or key blanks.
  • All keys lost vs. copying a key. Making a spare from a working key is usually cheaper than creating a key when every key is gone.
  • Where you are. Mobile service means no tow bill, which often makes a locksmith cheaper than the dealership.

How It Works

  1. Call or text 720-453-7334 with your location, and your vehicle’s year, make and model.
  2. Get a quote before we head out.
  3. Show proof of ownership. We check your ID and your registration or title before opening the car or making a key. It protects you from car theft.
  4. We open the car or make your key on-site, and test that it works before we leave.
  • Will you damage my car?

No. We use professional automotive tools designed to open doors without scratching paint or damaging the lock, window or seals.

  • What do I need to show?

A photo ID, plus your registration or title. The name should match, or you should be able to show you're authorized to use the vehicle.

  • Can you make a key if I lost all my keys?

Yes, for most vehicles. We can cut a key using your VIN or the lock itself, then program it to your car on-site.

  • Is a locksmith cheaper than the dealer for car keys?

Often, yes, especially once you count the tow to the dealership. Call with your vehicle details and we'll give you a quote.

  • Does my insurance or roadside plan cover this?

Some auto insurance and roadside assistance plans cover lockouts. It's worth checking your policy. We can provide a receipt for reimbursement.

  • My key fob stopped working. Is it the battery?

Often, yes. If a new battery doesn't fix it, the fob may need reprogramming or replacing, and we can do either.

  • Is a child or pet locked in the car?

Call 911 immediately. Emergency services respond to those situations first.

  • Locked out of your house instead?
